Robert B. Oliver Scholarship

The Robert B. Oliver Scholarship provides an incentive to students currently enrolled in course work related to NDT in a program of study leading to an associate degree or post-secondary certificate at a U.S. university, college, technical school, or company whose primary workforce is education.

Scholarship Information

Eligibility

Students applying for the scholarship must be officially enrolled in a U.S. associate degree or certificate program which includes studies in NDT.

Application 

The scholarship is awarded to the student(s) submitting the best original manuscript on nondestructive testing (NDT). The manuscript should develop a concept in NDT and may be based on practical experience, laboratory work, or library research. Submission of a manuscript means that it has not been published elsewhere and that it will not be published elsewhere while under consideration by ASNT.

The following documents must be submitted for an application to be complete:

  • Original student’s NDT manuscript; containing title, author, and completed references.
    • Should 5,000 words or less and a maximum of 10 illustrations.
    • If included, photographs (high resolution) and line drawings, must be original.
  • Official transcript showing student's completed coursework and grades.
  • Letter from an instructor confirming student’s current enrollment.

Selection

The manuscript is judged on creativity (10 points), content (50 points), format and readability (25 points), and the student’s hands-on involvement in the project (15 points). 

Award Timeline

  • Applications are due 29 February.
  • Students' original manuscript will be copyrighted and published in an ASNT publication.  
  • Scholarships are paid to student(s) in July.

Form of Award

Scholarship is $2,500. Up to three (3) scholarships are awarded each year.
